WTO will not necessarily pass down its verdict on FSC on 18 June

Brussels, 13/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - Geneva's verdict on the amount of sanctions the EU could inflict on the United States in the so-called "Foreign Sales Corporation" (FSC) affair will not necessarily be made on 18 June. "This date was mentioned by European and American officials "on the record" (…) but it is not a date that the WTO has confirmed", sources at the WTO headquarters said on Monday. the panel of experts, that must decide on the level of injury caused by the third version of the American export aid scheme does not in fact have any deadline. The Dispute Settlement Arrangements (DSA), concluded at the end of the Uruguay Round, is mot vague regarding the deadlines for the harms assessment procedures by experts. You may recall that in this affair, the Europeans invoke injury of $4.043 billion a year since 2000 (which corresponds to the commercial value of American exports that may be sanctioned), whereas the United States speaks of $956 million.
