Brussels, 03/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Danish President of the Europe of Democracies and Diversities group at the European Parliament, Jens-Peter Bonde, is calling for an EP committee of enquiry to be set up - or the launch of an investigations by an "independent team" - to determine whether the Spanish Presidency actually pressurised the European Commission to get it to postpone adoption of its proposals for reforming the Common Agricultural Policy (see EUROPE of 1 May, p.8). It also wants light to be shed on instructions that may have been given by six Member States (Portugal, Spain, Greece, Italy, France and Ireland) to their Commissioners. Bonde suggests that one Commissioner ceded to the pressure, alleging that Loyola de Palacio sent Franz Fischler a letter asking him to change his proposals.
