02/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 2-4 May CSU MEP, Gabriele Stauner, will be visiting the Russian town of Murmansk in the Kola peninsula, where the Kursk submarine sank two years ago. Ms Stauner indicated in a press statement that the greatest concentration of nuclear reactors was concentrated in the Kola Peninsula (180 of which are still working, 135 have been de-activated, more than 10 nuclear waste sites). The MEP will be meeting environmental representatives, visiting environmental protection projects, and drawing attention to the health and infrastructure problems in the region. Ms Stauner said that she expected that these experiences would be even more "dramatic" than those she had on a visit to Kaliningrad.
