23/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - Graham Watson, President of the Liberal Group at the European Parliament, welcomes the breakthrough on the part of the Liberal parties in the elections of 21 April in Hungary and Saxony-Anhalt, in Germany. In his view, the "moderate tone" in Hungary of the SDZS and its Socialist allies "will facilitate this country's road to EU membership", whereas, although having "inherited a favourable economic situation, Mr Orban gave a forward-looking vision of Hungary looking in on itself". Regarding the success by the FDP on Sunday in the Land of Saxony-Anhalt, Mr Watson considered this promising for the prospects of the German Liberal Party in the Bundestag elections in September.
