Brussels, 04/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - European Commission President Romano Prodi has convened the Commissioners Group on Equal Opportunities (set up in 1995 by his predecessor, Jacques Santer so that gender equality could be a the heart of Community action), for 6 March. President Prodi will present the progress made in the matter in 2001, as well as the priorities for 2002, on the basis of the Document "Gender Scoreboard". The Spanish Minister of Labour, Juan Carlos Aparicio, will, on behalf of the Presidency of the EU Council, address them on combating domestic violence, and the Commissioner for Equal Opportunities, Anna Diamantopoulou, will set out what has been achieved in the field in external relations. Commissioners Pedro Solbes and Neil Kinnock will turn to the Broad Economic Policy Guidelines and the problems of equal opportunities in the context of the reform of the institutions. Also taking part in this meeting will be representatives the EP's Committee on Women's Rights, the Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunities and the European Women's Lobby.
