Socialist group wants to interview Tony Blair

Brussels, 28/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Democratici di Sinistra MEP Pasqualina Napolitano has expressed her satisfaction that the Socialist group she belongs to had decided to invite Tony Blair, the British Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party, to come and address them about his priorities for the Barcelona Summit. The President of the PES group, Enrique Baron, will send Tony Blair an invitation, stressing the importance of an exchange of views on Barcelona within the Socialist and Social Democrat group. Ms Napolitano commented that at the Socialist group meeting on Wednesday, MEPs from various Member States expressed deep concern about the employment policy document adopted at the recent Anglo-Italian mini-summit by Tony Blair and Silvio Berlusconi. Every head of government has the right to take any initiatives they see fit, but the group felt that a Labour leader signing such a document cannot be shared and is hardly opportune.
