Brussels, 28/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the recruitment procedure for the Executive Director of the new European Food Safety Authority was launched when the European Commission published a call for interest with a view to drawing up a list of suitable candidates for the position by April. The Executive Directive will be selected from the list by the 15-member Management Board team who are currently being recruited (a call for interest was published on 1 February 2002 to draw up a list of candidates and the Council will select people from the list after consulting the European Parliament). Given the lengthy procedures, the Management Board and Executive Director will be able to start work in Brussels in the summer or at the beginning of autumn. The new EU food safety body will be provisionally situated in Brussels (see EUROPE of 22 February, p.7 and 21/22 January, p.10). Information: http: //efsa.eu.int.
