Brussels, 08/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - Next Wednesday, the European Commission will adopt a communication on an action plan on basic skills and mobility. Jointly drawn up by Anna Diamantopoulou (Social Affairs) and Viviane Reding (Education/Culture) in agreement with Fritz Bolkestein (Internal Market), it will be presented to the press by President Prodi and then added to the agenda of the Education Council on 14 February. The action plan, which is based on the conclusions of the High Level Task Force on "skills and mobility", will be forwarded to the Barcelona Summit. It aims to lift obstacles to the crossborder mobility of workers and insists on the creation, to this end, of the European medical assistance card (see EUROPE of 17 January, p.17).
