Adoption of three Urban PROGRAMMES for Greece

Brussels, 24/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Commission disclosed details of three Urban II Programmes for Greece. Urban II is a programme aimed at providing support for 70 deprived urban areas for the next four years. The Commission approved adoption of these programmes at the end of last year.

Komotini: EUR 12.39, EUR 8 million of which is provided out of the community budget. Programme priorities target urban infrastructure improvement, financial support to the local economy, the fight against social exclusion and support for locally organised networks.

Heraklion: EUR 11.6 million of which EUR 7.95 million comes from the EU. Objectives: urban renewal and improve the quality of life, promote new economic activities, facilitate social integration, increase the competencies of the labour force.

Perama: EUR 13.38 of which EUR 9.55 is provided by the EU. Priorities include the improvement of urban infrastructure, land reclamation, support for the local economy, the struggle against social exclusion and the strengthening of structures supporting the local labour force.
