Peter Schieder new President of Parliamentary Assembly

Strasbourg, 22/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - Austrian Socialist Peter Schieder has been unanimously elected to replace Lord Russell-Johnston as President of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly (his term in office can be renewed twice after the current term). He will be the 22and President since the Parliamentary Assembly was set up (in 1949) and the second Austrian appointed to the position.
