Modernising education systems - among Presidency's priorities

Brussels, 15/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - Over the next six months the Spanish Presidency intends to focus its work on aspects of education that best meet the real demands and needs of a market based society and which are likely to contribute to the modernisation of the education systems in the future. The Presidency is therefore particularly interested by the following issues: globalising the transparency of training systems; assessing the quality of education and permanent training; promoting the teaching of a second or third Community language; promoting co-operation between teaching centres at all levels of the education system and improving the training of teachers and trainers.
