14/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - The EU Troika consisting of President of the Council, Josep Piqué, Danish Secretary of State, Karsten Sondergaard, CFSP High Representative, Javier Solana and Commissioner for External relations, Chris Patten met the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anatoly Zlenko last week in Madrid. The Troika called on Ukraine to continue with its efforts to introduce democratic reforms in the country. According to the EFE news agency, Mr Piqué had indicated that Member States had asked the Ukrainian Minister to ensure the "maximum of transparency" at the next parliamentary elections. Mr Piqué also stated that they had discussed the strengthening of political and security dialogue with the Ukraine and the participation of the country in matters of Justice and Home Affairs, energy and nuclear safety.
