Brussels, 27/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission and the EU Council have expressed their solidarity with the Argentine people in this moment of severe crisis. The President of the Commission, Romano Prodi, stressed the Commission's commitment to "supporting Argentina in its efforts to overcome this difficult situation". "We Europeans share common roots and close human, political and economic ties with the Argentinian people", he added. The High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, said that he was certain the country would be able to overcome the crisis rapidly, peacefully and in democracy given its huge economic and human potential, with the support of the international community. Mr Solana stressed President de la Rua's sense of responsibility in presenting his resignation.
