Cushnahan expresses observers' concern

Brussels, 26/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - MEP John Cushnahan (EPP-ED, Ireland), Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission in Sri Lanka for elections on 5 December, issued a statement in Sri Lanka saying that "in the discussions we have had with the political parties since we arrived, real fears have been expressed that the level of violence in this campaign could in fact be higher" than anticipated.
