24/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - In plenary on Wednesday, Nicole Fontaine announced that she had forwarded to the EP's Committee on Legal Affairs the requests for the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of two MEPs of the Rassemblement pour la France, members of the Union for a Europe of Nations Group, Charles Pasqua, former home affairs minister, and Jean-Charles Marchiani, former "prefet". These follow the two MEPs being placed under examination for illegal possession of corporate funds, breach of trust and abuse of influence relating to the three companies ZTS, OSOS and Brenso, as well as the financing of the accounts of the electoral campaign of the list on which Mr. Pasqua was the leader at the last European elections. Only Pasqua is being prosecuted for the funding of the campaign.
