Brussels, 24/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - The ACP-EU Parliamentary Assembly will hold its third plenary session in Brussels next week with the following agenda: - Monday, the opening session will enable the two presidents-in-office of the Councils of the EU, Eddy Boutmans and ACP, Lavaka ata Ulukalala (Tonga), to turn to the Cotonou partnership; the Assembly will also have an exchange of views with the President of the European Investment Bank, Philippe Maystadt; - Tuesday, following a debate on the general report of German Social-Democrat Karin Junker on access for ACP countries to global communications as contribution to sustainable development, the Assembly will hear Commissioner Poul Nielson; two other debates will be on the report by the Swedish Conservative anders Wijkman on the use of renewable energies in ACP countries, then on the report by Richard Cheltenham (Barbados) relating to the impact of sanctions, especially embargoes, on populations; the afternoon will be devoted to debates on the situation in different countries and regions; - Wednesday, the Assembly will discuss several resolutions on migration, food safety, the elderly and the disabled, gender issues and AIDS; it will also have an exchange of views with Commissioner Pascal Lamy on the parliamentary dimension of international trade; - Thursday, the session will essentially be devoted to votes.
