According to the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, the German steel company SALZGITTER (turnover EUR 3.3 billion for the financial year ending September 2000 with an annual production of over 5 million tonnes of crude steel) is interested in acquiring EKO-STAHL, the German subsidiary of USINOR, as well as the German companies DILLINGER HUETTE and SAARSTAHL in order to form the second largest company in the sector in Germany, after THYSSENKRUPP.
