26/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - Meeting in Brussels recently for advisory meetings with the European Commission, the main European fisheries organisations (EUROPECHE for private fleet owners and COGECA "Fisheries" for fishing cooperatives) have just renewed their bureaux for two years. EUROPECHE has opted to renew the mandate of its current President, Alain Parrès (France), and elect Luigi Giannini (Italy), Barrie Deas (UK) and Frank Doyle (Ireland) as first, second and third Vice-Presidents respectively. COGECA "Fisheries" has appointed Dick Langstraat (the Netherlands) as its new President, along with José Ramon Fuertes Gamundi (Spain) and Lothar Fischer (Germany) as Vice-Presidents. Given the current situation of the fishing industry in the Community and the many areas of concern they are working on, the two organisations are "very anxious to strengthen dialogue at the highest political level with the main Community bodies" and urge Commissioner Franz Fischler to meet with them on a regular basis.
