The Hungarian group MATAV is to acquire from German DEUTSCHE TELEKOM the 49% that it does not yet own in the WESTEL and WESTEL 0660 mobile phone groups for the sum of $885 million. MATAV is the main telecommunications operator in Hungary, of which a majority is held indirectly by DEUTSCHE TELEKOM. The Hungarian State is also one of its shareholders while 40.51% of its capital is in public circulation.
