Reports on women's rights, the environment

Brussels, 20/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - At the end of its mini-session on Thursday, the European Parliament adopted reports to which we shall return on:

- the environment: Oomen-Ruitjen Report on air pollution from large combustion plants, and Myller on the national ceiling emissions for certain air pollutants (the EP accepted the outcome of the Conciliation with the Council);

- Women's rights: Smet report on equal wages, Andersson on harassment in the workplace (mobbing) and Valenciano Martinez-Oroczo on female genital mutilation (see yesterday's Europe, p. 14). Parliament also placed emphasis on the need bring the peripheral areas of the Union closer to the centre, by 2007-2010, a priority goal of the trans-European transport networks.
