The German utility RWE has launched an agreed bid for AMERICAN WATER WORKS, the biggest water company in the US ($1.4 bil turnover in 2000) for $8.4 bil, including the firm's debt. If the bid is successful, RWE will remain the world's third-largest water company behind VIVENDI ENVIRONNEMENT and SUEZ but it will become a big player in the US, the world's most valuable water market.
