Brussels, 07/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament has adopted Charlotte Cederschiöld's report (EPP, Sweden) on the European Commission's Communication on Cybercrime. The report calls on the Commission to make proposals on how to solve disputes over competency and to bring the EU's criminal law systems closer together; supports the proposal to create a European Cybercrime Forum; asks the Commission to hold a conference of EU and candidate country lawyers; and stresses the importance of encouraging European research (see EUROPE of 31 August, p.8). The first of two amendments added terrorism to the list of areas the Commission must work on to solve conflicts of competency and reconciling different legal systems, while the second calls for a European certification standard to be implemented to inform consumers about protecting IT products from cybercrime.
