Brussels, 07/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - In Brussels on 10 September the European Commission is organising a conference on lifelong education and training with more than 200 participants from 20 different countries, which makes it the greatest number different civil society organisations that have ever met up to discuss such a strategy. The participants include Etienne Davignon, President of Corporate Social Responsibility Europe and former Vice-President of the European Commission, Domenico Lenarduzzi, former Deputy Director General of DG Education/Culture at the Commission et Herman Schmidt (GUE/NGL, Sweden) and Katleen van Brempt (PES, Belgium), EP rapporteurs on lifelong education and training.
The conference will draw conclusions from the European-level consultation on the Memorandum on Lifelong Learning (October 2000) and contribute to the Communication being prepared by Commissioner Viviane Reding for this autumn, with concrete proposals to be implemented at national and EU level to turn the concept of lifelong learning into a reality.
