06/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - After an informal dinner on Wednesday in Berlin (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.7), France and Germany announced that they would have a joint proposal for the Laeken Summit on 14/15 December (which will have the theme of the future of the European Union and future institutional reform). We will have a joint proposal on procedures and, where possible, on substance, signalled Gerhard Schröder according to AFP, which also reported that President Chirac had said that there would not be any problem with the two countries understanding each other, whether in terms of objectives or of procedures. The French Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin said that if France and Germany could reach agreement on the method and bring their points of view closer together in terms of content, that would be useful for Europe.
