Brussels, 06/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - Contrary to what has been observed in France (See EUROPE 3 September, page 13), the German Statistics Office stated on Wednesday that no excessive impact on prices has occurred in Germany. Since April 2000, this organisation, together with the Bundesbank, have been analysing the prices of 18,000 different consumer goods. Its conclusions have so far been unable to conclude that any abusive practices concerning price rises and the passage to the single currency has occurred. The German Statistics Office does, nevertheless, point to the fact that overall, it is difficult to measure the impact of the Euro on the direction of prices… and make a direct correlation, since any variation could be due to other factors.
