Solana condemns Monday's terrorist attack

Jerusalem, 04/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, CFSP High Representative Javier Solana condemned the latest terrorist attack in Jerusalem, "the fifth in the last 24 hours", he notes in a declaration. Mr Solana, who has been in the Middle East since Sunday evening where he has met several leaders (but not Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon who had left for Moscow that afternoon: see above), states: "such attacks are shocking and disgraceful, even more so when they occur in front of a school as was the case today". He goes on to say: "I call on the Palestinian Authority to do everything possible to prevent further such attacks and to work for effective security cooperation on the ground. We are working intensively for a resumption of dialogue. Israelis and Palestinians should not yield to pressure from those who want to sabotage these efforts towards peace".
