According to the Wall Street Journal, the Netherlands' AHOLD is about to acquire the US's ALLIANT FOODSERVICE for USD 1.3 bil in cash plus a writing off of USD 700 million worth of debt. The US dairy products, seafood and food services distribution company had a turnover of USD 6.6 bil in 2000.
