Brussels, 16/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner responsible for regional policy, Michel Barnier, began a four-day visit on Monday to Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. "Enlargement, the debate about the future of regional policy and the future reform of the Union institutions in an enlarged Union are closely linked questions", he declared on the eve of this visit that should be devoted to both the management of pre-accession assistance and preparing for the management of regional aid on the day of accession, with special emphasis on improving the administrations responsible for the current or future management of European funds. The debate on the future of Europe will also be on the menu of the Commission's talks with the governments of the Baltic States.
