Forthcoming publication of "Employment in Europe 2001" report

Brussels, 16/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - In the coming days, the European Commission will publish its annual report on employment "Employment in EUROPE 2001", which shows a generalised and rapid improvement of the labour market in the EU. The report presents an analysis of the main trends and prospects for employment in the EU and in countries candidate for accession, in the context of the new goals set in Lisbon and Stockholm. It emerges mainly that: 1) over 3 million new jobs were created in 2000, 1.6 million of which went to women; 2) job-creation was strongest in the high-tech sector and the knowledge-intensive sector; 3) the prize for job-creation went to highly qualified women evolving in the high-tech sector. EUROPE will return to this.
