Brussels, 02/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission authorised, on Monday, Flextronics International Ltd (Singapore) to acquire all of the factory manufacturing handsets for Alcatel Business Systems mobile telephones located in Laval (North western France). It emerges from the Commission investigation that several powerful competitors exist (Solexctron, SCI Systems, etc), both at the world and European level for electronic equipment services for equipment builders. Thus competition is lively on this market and Flextronics will not be able to acquire a dominant position. Furthermore, the suppliers of electronic equipment services generally have as clients', material manufacturers that are demanding buyers with a considerable buying power (Nokia, Motorola, Cisco Systems, etc). The equipment manufacturers are also used to working alongside several suppliers, even for the same product. Thus the Commission authorised the concentration.
