Brussels, 02/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - At its weekly meeting in Strasbourg on Tuesday, the European Commission will adopt a Communication on setting up two separate departments to carry out financial controls. The Communication only outlines the minor changes expected to be made to these services after the Council's adoption on 9 April 2001, of the Regulation on separating the internal audit function from ex ante financial controls. This separation will mean that the financial controller will continue to carry the current ex ante functions, apart from the internal audit activities, which will be carried out by an independent internal auditor. This reorganisation of the Commission's services is one of the measures set out in the White Paper on Reform (March 2000).
