Commission authorises SEAT to acquire ENIRO

Brussels, 29/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has given its approval for the acquisition of ENIRO, a Swedish company active on the telephone directory market in the Scandinavian countries and in Germany, by SEAT, a subsidiary of Telecom Italia, that mainly operates on the telephone directory market in Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany. The Commission inquiry showed that the two partners operate in different geographic areas outside Germany, but that the operation does not present any problem at this stage, as the activities of the parties involved area centred on different products. The telephone directory market remains largely local or national because of the nature of the product, the existence of national distribution networks as well as linguistic and cultural barriers. The Commission did not therefore raise any objection to the operation, as SEAT/ENIRO remain confronted by competition from powerful rivals.
