Brussels, 27/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has approved, with undertakings, the subsidiary of France Telecom, Teleffusion de France (TDF), to take a controlling stake in Digita, the national supplier of distribution and transmission services to radio and TV broadcasters in Finland. TDF, for its part, offers wireless solutions for broadcasters and telecom operators. Through its subsidiary Telemast, it is also active in the distribution and terrestrial transmission of radio programmes by low power frequencies in Finland, and thus already in competition with Digitas. The Commission therefore demanded as condition for the operation the sale by TDF of Telemast, for two reasons. On the one hand, as such, the operation would lead to the elimination of TDF/Telemast, Digita's only real competitor on the market concerned, and, on the other, the operation risked creating a dominant position on the Finnish market for the supply of radio transmission and distribution equipment, TDF/Telemast being a large supplier of this type of equipment in Finland, and Digita a large purchaser.
