26/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - As announced (see also EUROPE of 22 June, p.4), Monday's General Affairs Council confirmed its common position on Cuba, and approved, without debate, different texts and declarations. It also approved conclusions on the situation in West Africa and Zimbabwe and formally adopted the decision that puts an end to the open consultation with Côte d'Ivoire under Article 96 of the Cotonou Convention. In this decision, the Council recalls, however, that it expects further progress to be made on the part of the Côte d'Ivoire authorities concerning the national reconciliation process, the working of the judicial system, inquiries into acts of violence during 2000 and the condemnation of xenophobic behaviour and remarks.
