Luxembourg, 26/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - In the conclusions that it adopted following its fifteenth meeting, Monday in Luxembourg, the European Economic Area (EEA) Council reviewed the various issues of common interest between the European Union and the EFTA and the EEA countries. The Council notably welcomes the undertaking by the EFTA countries for the implementation of the European Research Area and the preparation of the 6th EU framework programme, approves the continuation of the liberalisation of trade concerning processed agricultural products and encourages the parties to continue the works concerning the liberalisation of agricultural trade. Furthermore, the Council welcomes the progress achieved in view of a solution to the dispute born from the introduction, decidedly unilateral by Liechtenstein at the beginning of the year, of a heavy goods vehicle fee. The Council also took note of the interest of the EFTA countries concerning a possible involvement within the future European food authority, reiterated the need to find way for the participation of the EFTA countries in the works concerning the establishment of the European authorities for air safety, maritime safety and welcomed the progress achieved in view of the participation by Iceland and Norway in the European Common Aviation Area.
