Conference with researchers of candidate countries

Brussels, 26/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - On 27 and 28 June in Brussels the European Commission is organising a conference entitled "An Enlarged Europe for Researchers". The meeting, that will bring together nearly 300 representatives of EU Member State and candidate country research organisations, must allow financial, cultural, social and legal measures to be examined. This should increase mobility of researchers in Europe, tackling the factors which may contribute to strengthening the quality of human resources and preparing a new generation of researchers to meet the needs linked to the building of a knowledge Europe. The conference will be opened by President Romano Prodi and four round tables will be introduced by Commissioners Philippe Busquin (European Area for Research and Enlargement), Anna Diamantopoulou (employment and social aspects of mobility), Antonio Vitorino (free movement of persons), and Viviane Reding (young generation and a knowledge Europe).
