20/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - Without debate on Tuesday, the EU Council of ministers adopted a decision on the conclusion of a new fisheries protocol between the EU and the Comoros for the period 28 February 2001 to 27 February 2004. Parliament adopted its opinion (Perez Royo Reort) on 14 June (see EUROPE of 20 June, p.14). As a reminder, the Community's financial counterpart amounts to 1,050,750 euro for a reference tonnage of 4,670 tonnes a year. Fishing rights per tonne have increased from 20 to 25 euro a tonne. The Council also adopted a decision on the mandate to provide the Commission for the opening of negotiations to conclude bilateral fisheries agreements for tuna with certain ACP states in the Pacific area.
