05/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption of the report by Alexander de Roo (Greens, NL), during last week's plenary session, the Parliament endorsed the agreement between the EP and Council concerning the directive on norms for tyres and their fitting, concluded during the meeting of the conciliation committee in March (see EUROPE of 24 March, p.13). The aim of the new legislation (amending Directive 92/93) is to reduce the on-road noise emitted by automobile tyres.
