Green light to takeover of Onex Food services by Lufthansa Service Holding

Brussels, 05/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission authorised Lufthansa service Holding AG (LSG), 100% subsidiary of the German airline Deutsche Lufthansa, to take control of the American company Onex Food Services. LSG offers in-flight catering services for airlines throughout the world and, to a lesser extent, for airport restaurants. In Europe, it is present in Germany, Italy, Austria, Norway and Denmark. Onex Food also ensures on-board catering services throughout the world. With LSG, the American company also controls the company LSG/Sky Chefs Europe Holding Limited, which provides this type of service notably in Spain, the United Kingdom and in France. Onex Food is, on the other hand, present in this sector in Portugal through CateringPor-Catering in which it is a shareholder. By taking control of Onex Food, LSG thus becomes 100% owner of Sky Chefs Europe. After a first investigation, the Commission decided to authorised the operation as, on the one hand LSG already exercises joint control on Onex Food and Sky Chefs Europe, and on the other hand, the transaction would not lead to overlaps in on-board catering activities. Finally there exist enough companies active in the sectors (notably Gate Gourmey, Servair and IberSwiss) to guarantee healthy competition on the European market.
