Commission approves selective distribution system for Yves Saint Laurent perfumes

Brussels, 17/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided not to raise any objection to the Yves Saint Laurent Parfums (YSLP) system for selective distribution of its perfumes, allowing approved retailers to sell perfumes via a network of selective distributors (perfumeries) but also via the internet. The Commission considers that the use of the internet as a means for selling products boosts the competitiveness of the European economy and is beneficial for consumers who benefit from a larger choice and better prices. In 1991, the Commission had granted individual exemption to the distribution system for YSLP perfumes according to competition rules for the period from 1 June 1991 to 31 May 1997. After expiry of this period, the luxury group had notified the Commission of the system in question in order to gain further exemption.
