Brussels, 03/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - Following the contradictory interpretations of the press concerning the proposal of law voted by the French National Assembly authorising conversion into euros by banks as of 1 December 2001 and up to 10,000 euros, Gerassimos Thomas, the spokesman for Commissioner Pedro Solbes, specified on Thursday that this legislation does not run counter to the decision by the Ecofin Council in Versailles banning the circulation of notes before 1 January 2002.
