THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/israel

26/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - Giuseppe Di Lello, Italian member of the Group of the European United Left in the European Parliament, called, on behalf of the Group, for the Nobel Peace Prize to be stripped from Shimon Peres, who, he said, as Israeli Foreign minister, is "fully involved" in the "brutal policy of colonialist war" of the Sharon Government. The MEP recalled that the Nobel Peace Prize had been awarded to Shimon Peres, Yitzhaz Rabin and Yasser Arafat in 1994 for, on 13 September of the same year, having signed the "Declaration of Principles" from which the peace process between Israel and Palestinians was to have developed.
