Strasbourg, 12/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - In an emergency resolution, the EP calls on the Turkish Cypriots to immediately freed and without conditions Pannikos Tsiakourmas, kidnapped last December from the British base of Dhekelia, in Cyprus, and "forcibly transferred" to the occupied zone, where he is accused of drug possession. Everything leads to believe that the drugs where hidden on him following his kidnapping, said the Parliament, which notes that Mr Tsiakourmas suffers from chronic health problems and needs medical care. European Commissioner Pascal Lamy indicated that the case should be raised in the General Affairs Council on Monday, and in the framework of the political dialogue between the EU and Turkey.
