04/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The "Turkish Cypriot delegation" to Brussels wrote to the member of the European Parliament to protest against the exposition of photos organised in Strasbourg for this week's plenary session, on the initiative of the Greek MEP Ioannis Marinos (Nea Demoratika) on the theme "27 years of Turkish occupation of Cyprus - Destruction of the cultural heritage in the occupied territories of Cyprus". The "representative" for Northern Cyprus in Brussels, Hilmi Akil was indignant that an exercise of propaganda of such a nature was authorised in the EP and reproaches Greece for slandering the Turkish Cypriots. There never was a pillage or the destruction of the cultural heritage of Northern Cyprus, he said in his letter, when asserting that it is the Greek Cypriots which have always tried to eradicate any trace of the Turco-Muslim heritage of Cyprus.
