ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) medical equipment

The French pharmaceutical group SANOFI-SYNTHLABO has concluded an agreement with the Italian chemicals company SNIA, specialised in medical technology, in view of the sale of 100% of ELA MEDICAL (127 million euro turnover in 2000 with 683 employees) its cardiology equipment subsidiary, for 140 million euro. SNIA and ELA MEDICAL's accumulated turnover will exceed 165 million euro, representing a 16% share of the European market.
