Brussels, 26/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission authorised the American food processing multinational Heinz CO to acquire the Dutch and Belgian "food" subsidiaries of the Dutch company CSM. The subsidiaries concerned are Hak, Honig Merkartikelen, Koninklijke De Ruijter, Pagnier, Venianco in the Netherlands and Anco in Belgium. They notably produce dry soups, baking products, vegetables in glass jars and sweet bread toppings. The Commission investigations showed the overlaps on the Dutch markets, on the one hand in the sector for non-perishable vegetables and bread topping products in portions and, on the other hand, for the bread topping products in individual portions for the Dutch food service market. However, the cumulated market share is not significant, and there exist powerful competitors in these sectors, such as Kraft Foods International, Unilever, Nestle and Andros/Bonne Maman. Thus the Commission authorised the operation.
