Brussels, 26/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - At the end of the 23 February Summit in Skopje (see EUROPE of 24 February), the Swedish Presidency adopted the following declaration on behalf of the EU: "The Presidency, on behalf of the European Union, welcomes the signing today of the border demarcation agreement between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in Skopje. By this agreement the two neighbouring countries have given a concrete example of good neighbourly relations and regional co-operation, strengthening peace and security in South Eastern Europe. It is also a sign of the willingness of the new FRY authorities to find peaceful solutions to regional disputes inherited from the previous regime. In this context the EU urges all countries in the region to deepen regional co-operation in the spirit of the Zagreb Summit. The EU also reiterates its commitment to assist such efforts.
The Central and Eastern European countries associated with the European Union, the associated countries Cyprus, Malta and Turkey, and the EFTA countries, members of the European Economic Area align themselves with this declaration."
