Tensions between Switzerland and EU over opening of bilateral negotiations - Patten's letter to Swiss Government

Bern, 23/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - A letter from Commissioner Chris Patten addressed to the Swiss Government to press it to open new bilateral negotiations received a strong reaction on the part of the Swiss authorities on Friday. In his letter, the Commissioner links the pursuit of the ratification process of the bilateral agreements singed in 1999 to progress achieved in other sectors (see below).
