Brussels, 15/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided that only part of the aid granted to the Dutch computer assembly company SCI was compatible with the common market. It has thus approved aid to job-creation intended for several categories of disadvantaged workers, as long as the Dutch authorities ensure that this aid, combined with investment aid, will remain below the ceiling of 20% of eligible costs (6.6 million euro, the total amounting to 33 million euro). It has, however, decided that aid resulting from a land sale below the market price and a low rent for temporary production facilities to be illegal. Part of this illegal aid also comes from funding granted by the regional authorities for the renovation of the said facilities and the security services around them, funding that should have been borne by SCI, says the Commission. Other measures aimed at public transport services and earmarked for certain SCI employees were not considered as being State aid.
