Brussels, 29/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - A delegation from the GUE/NGL Group of the EP, made up of Pernille Frahm, Feleknas Uca and Kostas Alyssandrakis, back from a fact-finding trip to Turkey to get first hand information on the military action of last December in Turkish prisons where some thirty detainees were killed and a hundred or so seriously injured, has launched an appeal to the Turkish Government to resume talks over conditions in the prisons and to put an end to the isolation of detainees in F-type prisons. The MEPs criticise the EU for its "lack of reaction" and calls on it to back any initiative aimed at negotiating "a democratic and non-violent solution to the conflict to save the lives of death fastening and hunger-striking prisoners".
